Secondary students at Manor Lakes P-12 College are supported through their daily Home Group teacher, Year Level Coordinator, Student Management and Wellbeing Leading Teachers (Heads of School) as well as the Assistant Principals and classroom teachers.

The secondary curriculum program at Manor Lakes P-12 College is designed to provide students with a comprehensive general education in years 7-10. Students also have the opportunity to individualise their program through electives as they reach Year 9 and increase these choices in Year 10.

The program in Years 7 to 10 provides a sound foundation for studies in the VCE, VCAL and VET streams. It allows student flexibility in subject breadth, together with opportunities for extension and differentiation. In Year 10 students also have the option of enrolling in VCE subjects, as well as foundation, core and advanced Maths. Selected students are also able to take part in early commencement VCAL.

In years 11 and 12 students have access to a wide range of VCE, VCAL and VET subjects.

Our focus on achievement and success, complemented by the comprehensive support provided to students, increases the breadth of post school options to which our students have access.

The VCE provides diverse pathways to further study or training at university or TAFE and to employment.  The VCE is administered by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA).

VCAL: Years 11-12 (Selected Year 10s may commence this also)

The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) is a hands-on option for students in Years 11 and 12. The VCAL gives you practical work-related experience, as well as literacy and numeracy skills and the opportunity to build personal skills that are important for life and work. This pathway is for students who want apprenticeships, become trainees or want to follow school with a specific TAFE qualification.

Enrichment Class Year 7-10 (select entry)

Towards the end of the year, students enrolled at MLs are able to apply for our Year 7 and 8 select entry program – Enrichment. The application requires students to sit several literacy and numeracy tests as well as write an essay.

At Years 9 and 10 students are offered Advanced English and Advanced Maths classes.

AFL Football Development Program: Years 7-8 (select entry)

Manor Lakes Football Program is conducted in conjunction with North Melbourne FC with a pathway into their Next Generation Academy.  We also have strong connections with the Western Jets FC, Werribee FC and Victoria University, which aim to provide students with opportunities and pathways towards these organisations.

It is an Application based program for students ranging from grade 5 to year 8 including a mini draft combine conducted by AFL Victoria and NMFC. The program has strong links across the Vic Curriculum in areas of English, science, history, P.E, math’s and personal development covering topics such as training, recovery, nutrition, leadership, coaching and body systems.

Camps: Years 7-12

There are a variety of camp opportunities for students as they move from Year 7 through to 12. Some of those camps are offered to whole cohorts (Years 7, 9, 12), while some are subject-specific (Outdoor Education, in particular). We are beginning to occasionally offer additional, voluntary camps that run throughout holidays for those who are interested.

The objective of a school camp depends on the cohort who are attending. At Year 7, for example, the focus is on increasing independence, resilience and teamwork, while at Year 12 the focus is on mental wellbeing and study skills as students come to end of their schooling.

Physical Education: Years 7-12

Our Secondary Physical Education program encompasses the acquisition of movement skills, concepts and strategies that enable students to confidently and competently participate in a range of physical activities. Through Health and Physical Education our students develop an understanding of health issues and the skills needed for confident participation in sport and recreational activities.

The English Curriculum Area strives to foster reflective, creative, critical and analytical thinkers and writers with an appreciation for the English language. Students, develop skills in listening, reading, viewing, speaking, writing and creating, promoting and constructing confident, informed and active members of society.
